About

Why Woolly Mammoth Knits? Well, I love the history of our craft and from thinking about this I began to wonder how much yarn the woolly mammoth, king of ice age mammals, could have produced. I decided to take this idea and use the name for my patterns. My husband drew the little woolly mammoth picture that sits at the top of all Woolly Mammoth Knits patterns and I dressed it in a purple sweater and so Woolly Mammoth Knits got a logo.

A little bit about my patterns: I love designing all things seamless; everything from top-down raglan cardigans, tops, hats, shawls to scarves and mitts with cables, lace or color work. Many of my designs are vintage-inspired and in addition to women’s wear and accessories I really enjoy designing baby and children’s garments.

I learned to knit when I was eight and although my first small project took several years to complete, I became a true addict in my mid-twenties. My patterns have appeared in Knitty Magazine, Twist Collective, Creative Knitting, Yarn Forward, the Classic Elite Yarns web-letter, and the books More Knitting in the Sun, Simple, Hip, Knit Scarves and Fresh Designs: Hats, among others. They are also a part of the Knit Picks Independent Designer Program. Many of my patterns are for sale here on the Woolly Mammoth Knits website. To access the pattern pages, please check out one of the following links: clothing patterns, accessories patterns and baby & kids patterns. A selection of free patterns can be found on the site as well: free patterns.

If you’re a member of Ravelry, please consider taking a look at my Ravelry designer page or check out the Woolly Mammoth Knits Ravelry Group for pattern support and to connect with other knitters working on my patterns. My Rav username is linw.

My blog can be read on this website as well. I use it to document my adventures knitting around the world, announce the publication of new patterns, and ramble about other assorted topics. I hope you’ll enjoy my patterns, and happy knitting!
