Mergellina Shawl

Mergellina is a sideways-knit triangular shawl that combines the fun of cables with the ease of garter stitch. Worked in one piece from side to side, the wavy cabled border is knit simultaneously with the garter stitch portion. The cables slant to the right in the first half of the shawl and to the left in the second, creating a striking visual effect. This reversible shawl features textured wavy cables along the edge, making it stylish to wear as a wrap or scarf.

Pattern Notes

The shawl is worked from side to side, from the right point to the left. The shape is achieved by casting on stitches in the first half and binding them off after the center section, forming elegant "teeth" along the shawl's edge. The cable cast-on method is used to create a neat edge, with step-by-step instructions provided in the pattern.
